  • The iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile stopped at Brookshire’s locations in Shreveport today, delighting shoppers with a pop-up display of brand history. The mobile’s visit brought an unexpected, community-focused moment to local retail hours.  KSLA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • State Farm and Progressive are lowering auto insurance rates as new laws passed in 2025 take effect in January 2026. Progressive’s subsidiaries will reduce rates by 6.6% and 4% for nearly 500,000 policyholders while State Farm announced a 5.9% drop.  Shreveport Times
  • A new study found that nearly all AI pilot projects have delivered little measurable value as local companies are hiring AI specialists 151% faster than data engineers, with 548 AI positions posted versus 218 data roles, a gap that may risk upcoming digital projects.  Shreveport Times

  • Students from Caddo and Bossier parishes have been named regional honorees in the Students of the Year program by the Department of Education, recognizing top fifth-, eighth-, and twelfth-graders for academic excellence and leadership—finalists will be selected later in the school year.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two magnitude 3.1 earthquakes shook near Coushatta in Red River Parish Thursday morning at 9:06 a.m. and 10:01 a.m. — these events are among the region’s strongest since December 2024.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flu and respiratory illnesses are very high across Louisiana as emergency room visits and wastewater tests show more cases; data from the CDC+Walgreens indicates that RSV remains high while COVID stays low.  Shreveport Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSUS Shreveport men’s and women’s basketball teams top the conference as the men boast an 11-3 record and both teams prepare for road games tonight in New Orleans and Saturday in Houston (players earned multiple RRAC weekly honors recently); meanwhile, BPCC lost 91-71 at Tyler JC on Wednesday and will host Lee College next Wednesday at 7.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • LSU Shreveport has hired Callie Houlihan as the first head coach of its new women’s volleyball program. Previously an assistant at McPherson College, she begins her duties immediately to train the team for its inaugural season.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • The new indoor pickleball facility, The Picklr, in Bossier City is nearly complete and will open on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Louisiana Boardwalk, with a pro shop, lounge, and locker room (bathrooms and showers are complete) as officials report.  KSLA
