  • Volunteers packed food boxes for senior citizens at the Food Bank of NWLA today, providing essential food assistance to local elders. Community leaders coordinated the event to ensure supplies reached people in need.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mardi Gras season starts soon as local krewes plan parades; the Krewe of Sobek leads on Jan. 17, the Krewe of Harambee follows on Jan. 19, the Krewe of Centaur marches on Feb. 7, the Krewe of Gemini on Feb. 14, and the Krewe of Highland concludes on Feb. 15 (in the Highland Historic District).  KSLA
  • The Krewe of Demeter Bal kicked off Mardi Gras balls today in ArkLaTex with parades, music and costume contests at local venues — organizers say the event honors decades of tradition.  KSLA
  • The R.W. Norton Art Gallery announced revised hours for its Botanical Garden gates starting Wednesday, Feb. 4; the Thora Boulevard and south walk-through gates will close at 3 p.m. while the Huron Street gate will open on weekdays only (visitors must follow posted rules).  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • G-Unit Film & Television Louisiana, LLC announced Monday it will invest over $124 million to redevelop three downtown entertainment venues, including renovating the former Stageworks facility and modernizing the former Millennium Studios campus, to boost film production and create jobs with state funding of up to $50 million.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Caddo Magnet senior Maya Trutschl has been named one of the Top 300 Regeneron Science Talent Search 2026 Scholars as the only honoree from Louisiana.   • A 2.7 magnitude earthquake shook northwest Louisiana Sunday morning near Allen in Natchitoches Parish at 9:40 a.m. — geologists say it is one of several small quakes linked to wastewater from oil and gas work.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Former ASH Trojan JT Lindsey announced his transfer to Ole Miss and will continue his college football career in the SEC instead of staying at LSU. The move was confirmed yesterday as he prepares for a fresh start with his new team.  KSLA
