COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Caddo Parish invites residents to the grand reopening of the Walter B. Jacobs Nature Center on Saturday, Jan. 17, with a ribbon-cutting at 9:30 a.m. and public doors opening at 10 a.m. featuring interactive exhibits, live animal displays, and a statewide announcement from the Lieutenant Governor.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • GameStop closed several stores on Jan 7 and will close 13 Louisiana outlets this month. Some locations, including those in Broussard, Covington and La Place, close today as the retailer cuts costs amid a shift to digital game downloads.  Shreveport Times
  • The Shreveport-Caddo Parish Metropolitan Planning Commission approved plans for a new Taco Bell on Line Ave. next to the former Sonic at 6625 Line Ave.; construction has not yet begun.  Shreveport Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WalletHub released a ranking on Tuesday, Jan. 13 that placed Louisiana among the worst in school quality, noting quality (42) and safety (48) ranks as it compared factors like performance, funding, and class sizes.  Shreveport Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The updated standings for Shreveport-area high school basketball were published Jan. 12 (records cover games played through Sunday, Jan. 11). The update lists results across multiple districts, including Captain Shreve's record at 12–7.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Loyola edged Bossier 1-0 Monday night as Bishop Doege scored the game-winning goal in the final minute (boosting the Flyers’ bid for the District I title). The heated match saw increased fouls, and Loyola faces tougher contests later this week.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
