  • Verizon is experiencing outages across Louisiana; in Shreveport, about 281 customers reported phone issues on Wednesday, Jan. 14 — some iPhones displayed SOS for no service. Verizon teams are working to restore connectivity.  Shreveport Times

  • Six local women recognized for their work in business, tourism, education and counseling will be honored at the tenth annual Virginia K. Shehee Most Influential Woman Awards. The awards luncheon is set for March 5 at East Ridge Country Club.  Shreveport Times

  • Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson and G-Unit Film + Television, Louisiana, LLC announced a new downtown Shreveport redevelopment in partnership with the state, including $78 million for Millennium Studios and $24 million for Stageworks; city leaders said the combined funds will drive long-term growth with no City money.  Shreveport's Secrets

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Centenary College will host Dream Week from Jan. 19 to Jan. 23 to celebrate MLK Day and honor Dr. King's legacy. The week offers free student transportation for parades and film screenings + community events including a chapel service, keynote address and a stuff swap.  KSLA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Walter B. Jacobs Nature Center will reopen on Saturday, Jan. 17 in Caddo Parish with upgrades including interactive exhibits, live animal displays, an aviary, and five miles of hiking trails. Officials will hold a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. and a special announcement by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.  KSLA

  • Louisiana law does not clearly forbid drivers from flashing high beams to warn others (federal rulings have protected this practice under the First Amendment), leaving local officers room to decide how to enforce it.  Shreveport Times

  • D.J. Dudley hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 4.7 seconds left as Louisiana Tech overcame a 20-point deficit in a 59-58 win over Middle Tennessee at the Thomas Assembly Center on Wednesday night — marking the second largest comeback in 50 years.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
