  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office will host Stop With the Excuses — a program offering parents guidance on setting clear limits and spotting early warning signs — on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. at 1501 Corporate Drive.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Krewe of Harambee’s annual MLK Day Parade rolled through downtown Shreveport yesterday, offering dancing, games and fun for residents + organizers said the event honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and brought neighbors together.  KSLA
  • Shreveport's Civil Rights Museum in the historic Galilee Baptist Church at Snow and Williamson shows Dr. King’s legacy after his speech that inspired Pastor H. Calvin Austin III (aged 13 when he attended). The museum keeps his lessons alive for community progress.  KSLA
  • Krewe of Harambee hosted its 26th annual MLK Day Parade in downtown Shreveport yesterday, offering an afternoon of dancing & games that brought neighbors together.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Krewe of Harambee held the Hopes and Dreams scholarship breakfast in downtown Shreveport, awarding high school students scholarships honoring Martin Luther Kiing Jr.—an event that celebrated academic excellence and community legacy.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, unusual aircraft were spotted over Barksdale Air Force Base, including the Boeing E‑4B—which acts as an airborne command center—and a Qantas 747 landing around 3 p.m. Officials clarified there is no cause for concern, noting the E‑4B departed around 3:30 p.m.  KTBS
  • Louisiana's Department of Revenue will begin accepting 2025 individual income tax returns on Monday, Jan. 26, letting residents file electronically or on paper with refunds arriving in four to eight weeks + updating contact information is advised for timely processing.  KSLA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Orangetheory Fitness is offering a $2 a day membership deal with expert coaching and flexible workouts until Saturday, Jan. 31. Local residents can use the promotion to stick to their New Year’s resolutions.  Shreveport Times

  • LSUS Pilots extended their unbeaten RRAC streak with a 113-84 win over Texas A&M San Antonio Saturday as Hayden Brittingham scored 38 and the women won 71-63; Centenary’s men's team split its road games, beating one opponent and losing the other.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Shreveport-area prep basketball standings were updated through Monday, Jan. 19, with Captain Shreve (1-0, 12-9) and Huntington (1-0, 12-6) among District 1-5 leaders. Updated power rankings show early season records for teams across multiple districts.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Bad weather moved LSU Shreveport’s season opener to Thursday at 5 p.m. on campus against Tabor College, and a doubleheader is set for noon Friday.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Local high school soccer standings have been updated through Saturday, Jan. 17, with boys’ teams like Caddo Magnet (2-0, 11-3-0) and Captain Shreve (3-1, 17-4-2) leading District 1 and girls’ teams also ranked.
