BUSINESS NEWS

  • Defense companies in North Louisiana, including Archem, BetaFlix, Praeses, SBCC and Stephenson Stellar Corporation, were awarded a $151 billion Missile Defense Agency contract to support innovation in national defense. They now have a pathway to secure future task orders in research, prototyping and manufacturing—boosting a local defense cluster near Barksdale.  KTBS

  • Caddo Schools remain closed today due to a winter storm that left several campuses with heating issues, leaking pipes, and low water pressure — maintenance crews are at work to repair the damage so classes can resume once conditions improve.  KSLA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Thomas Hornor, general manager at Broadmoor Garage on East Kings Hwy, warns that thawing winter weather may cause car fluid leaks, low tire pressure, and battery and brake issues. The shop will open Saturday after a brief closure due to the storm.  KTBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Sunday, Feb. 1, Louisiana flyers without REAL ID must pay a $45 fee to use TSA ConfirmID for a 10-day travel period. Those who pay after arriving may face longer wait times at airport security.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • City crews responded to isolated water main breaks as thaw set in, including one incident on Carroll Street, with Interim Director Brandon R. Snead checking on repairs today — residents are urged to call the 24-hour emergency line at 318-673-7600 if they notice leaks.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • More than 50,000 Entergy customers in northern Louisiana remain without power following Winter Storm Fern, and restoration in Ouachita Parish is expected to be complete on Saturday, Jan. 31 + Governor Landry has requested a federal disaster declaration to support the recovery effort.  Shreveport Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Water and Sewerage crews fixed a water main break on Ford Street Thursday that had shut off service for customers on the 1700–2000 blocks, and a voluntary boil advisory remains in effect until water safety is confirmed.  KTBS
  • Recent winter storms reduced blood and platelet donations at LifeShare Blood Center — causing a strain on inventory when local hospitals need supply this winter. Eligible donors are urged to schedule appointments as soon as possible.  KTBS
