COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Shreveport Police partnered with other agencies for safety measures at the Krewe of Centaur Mardi Gras parade on Saturday, Feb. 7. They will use helicopters, drones, and watch towers along the six-mile route to keep parade-goers safe.  KSLA
  • Oil City Community Center at 310 Savage Street opened public showers and laundry services at 6 a.m. today to help residents during a water outage. The center will operate until 10 p.m. daily until full service is restored — volunteers are on site and local partners provide snacks and water.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Water service has been restored at Blanchard Elementary, Donnie Bickham Middle, Mooringsport Elementary, and Northwood High School, so classes will resume today; Herndon Magnet remains virtual while work continues on the restoration effort.  KTBS
  • Shreve Memorial Library invites high school students aged 16 or older to apply online for a paid summer internship that lasts eight weeks, starting May 29 and ending July 23. Interns will earn $10 per hour at local branches, and applications close Feb. 22.  KTBS

  • The Louisiana Attorney General's Office warned local property owners to verify contractor licenses when hiring for Winter Storm Fern repair work — it provided a consumer hotline at 800-351-4889 and tips today to help avoid scams.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Blanchard Mayor Jim Galambos said Wednesday morning that water is flowing to Belcher, Dixie, Gilliam, Lake View and Mooringsport as storage tanks fill, though service remains incomplete. In Oil City, Mayor Cheryl Driskell announced a shower and washer trailer will be available today at 3 p.m. at the Community Center.  KTBS
