CULTURE NEWS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana’s jobless claims dropped to 1,107 for the week ending Jan. 31 from 1,400 the week before, the Labor Department reported Thursday. In contrast, nationwide claims rose to 231,000 from 209,000.  Shreveport Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local libraries will celebrate three science days (Feb. 11) including Be Electrific Day that promotes STEM learning, National Inventors’ Day honoring Thomas Edison, and International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Residents can attend programs featuring documentaries, readings, and hands-on experiments at various branches.  Shreveport Times
  • Shreve Memorial Library is offering a summer internship for high school students 16+ that begins May 29 until July 23, paying $10 an hour for up to 20 hours weekly at all branches—applications are open until Feb. 22 and require a 2.0 GPA.  Shreveport Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data shows Caddo Parish home prices fell 1% in November, with the median dropping to $193,000 from $195,000 in October. Single-family homes rose to $199,000—condo and townhome prices plunged and recorded sales fell 13% from last November.  Shreveport Times

  • Riley Cram from Captain Shreve's was named the Shreveport Times Athlete of the Week and explained his key winning moments in an interview.  Shreveport Times
  • LSU women's basketball will face Auburn today at 1 p.m. CT at Neville Arena after their win streak was snapped on the road. The game will air on SEC Network — live streaming is available through the ESPN app.  Shreveport Times
  • At Brookshire Grocery Arena on Saturday, Feb. 07, two North DeSoto wrestlers and three from Evangel earned individual state titles at the LHSAA tournament while North DeSoto finished second overall in Division II.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
