- ➤ Volunteers from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office cleaned a half-mile stretch of Spring Street in front of juvenile court last week. The cleanup improved the area's safety and appearance and shows the office's ongoing commitment to keeping the community welcoming. Shreveport Bossier Journal

- ➤ Governor Jeff Landry announced Monday, Feb. 23 that Amazon is building a $12 billion data center in Caddo and Bossier parishes, expected to generate 540 direct jobs + 1,700 indirect jobs; the company posted openings for a project engineer and senior construction manager after the announcement. - ➤ Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser pardoned Tony the Crawfish at Tony Chachere’s Creole Foods in Opelousas yesterday to kick off crawfish season. Tony was then moved to Chicot State Park in Ville Platte to live in the bayou and honor Cajun traditions. Shreveport Times

- ➤ The Louisiana High School Athletic Association recognized 95 boys for the Composite All-Academic Soccer Team on Feb. 24 after they maintained a 4.0 GPA over six semesters. Additional seniors with GPAs between 3.5 and 3.99 will be honored on the Class All-Academic Team following the state championships. Shreveport Times
- ➤ North DeSoto High School senior Ben Flanders performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Feb. 8 with the Honors Band after being chosen from 10,000 candidates. - ➤ A minor earthquake struck the Coushatta area on Tuesday morning, marking the eighth tremor recorded since Dec. 4; the 2.9 event is part of a series likely caused by wastewater disposal from oil & gas extraction. The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

- ➤ Local high school teams from Captain Shreve, Green Oaks, Huntington and North Caddo will host first-round LHSAA boys basketball playoff games Friday night; Captain Shreve will play No-19 Holy Cross at 6:30 p.m. Shreveport Bossier Journal
- ➤ On Feb. 23, local high school girls' basketball teams advanced in the LHSAA playoffs when Captain Shreve beat Archbishop Chapelle 56-24 and Red River and Logansport secured wins that set up next rounds. - ➤ Huntington dominated Woodlawn-Baton Rouge on its home court Monday night and will host state quarterfinal opponent Alexandria Senior High later this week + Captain Shreve defeated Archbishop Chapelle on its own court and will travel to Metairie to face John Curtis. Shreveport Bossier Journal
