  • The Barksdale Defenders of Liberty Air Show returns on March 29 for a free, two-day event featuring the Thunderbirds and a bomber-heavy display of historic and current planes. CRIME NEWS

  • A Shreveport man named SirElderick Hays was found guilty of manslaughter after he robbed a victim of his rifle and shot him in the neck in a 2021 incident — he now faces sentencing on April 16 and up to 159 years in prison.  KTBS
  • SirElderick Hays, 25, a Shreveporter, was convicted on March 12 in Caddo District Court of armed robbery, felon in possession of a weapon & manslaughter after he stole a rifle and shot a man in the neck near Lakeside Garden Apartments, with sentencing set for April 16, 2025 and a potential total of 159 years in prison.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA canceled two food programs that provided nearly $1 billion in funds for local school meals and food pantries, a move that may disrupt nutrition services in Louisiana. The cuts, announced on March 7, could reduce supplies for schools and food banks - local farmers and families could be the hardest hit.  Shreveport Times
  • The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said work on the new Jimmie Davis Bridge is progressing well with a temporary trestle now complete for equipment placement—contractors are driving piles for the foundations and widening LA 511 for a four-lane route expected to open in early 2027.  KSLA
  • Louisiana voters will decide on four proposed constitutional amendments on March 29 that cover courts, taxes, juvenile crime charges and judgeships. Early voting runs from March 15 to March 22 and may change state law and government spending—residents should verify their polling locations.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Petroleum Tower will undergo a $30 million conversion to become 117 modern residential units and retail space on the ground floor—construction is expected to begin within the next three months after unanimous council approval.
