ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Shreveport home in the 300 block of Brookbriar Drive went up in flames Wednesday night at 8:34 p.m.—eight fire units with 21 firefighters controlled the blaze by 8:44 p.m. after a neighbor called 911 and no injuries were reported as the cause was electrical while American Red Cross provided aid. KTAL
- ➤ A sand truck rolled over at East 70th and East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in south Shreveport on March 20th, spilling sand and diesel fuel—causing traffic to be diverted until the scene was cleared. KTBS
- ➤ A Shreveport home on the 4000 block of Marion Pl. caught fire on March 19 just after 9:30 a.m. when firefighters found a victim on the second floor who suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital (the home had no working smoke alarms) with the blaze brought under control at 10:26 a.m. (investigators are still looking into the cause). CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On March 15 at 2:35 a.m., Shreveport Police responded to a shooting outside Club Haze—where one victim was pronounced dead, one died after emergency surgery, and two others were injured—and have secured arrest warrants for shooter Kentavious Taylor on two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder as he remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Southern University System is marking 145 years this week with a cake-cutting event today at Southern University Shreveport led by Chancellor Aubra Gantt—celebrations will conclude on Sunday with a church service that brings together local faith communities and highlights academic programs. - ➤ The Louisiana Department of Education announced on March 17 that standardized testing for grades 3-8 will be reduced. Starting in the 2027-2028 school year, students will take social studies tests in only grades 3, 5 and 8—cutting total testing time from 1,100 minutes to 550 minutes. Shreveport Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Tom Arceneaux said on KEEL Radio Tuesday that Shreveport will delay installing automated speed cameras until after the Legislative Session because pending bills might outlaw them and Blue Line Solutions' investment is uncertain. The cameras will be placed only in high-speed areas like Pines Road, Jewella Road, and Lake Shore — a decision approved by the city council with plans to install them in the summer. Shreveport Times
- ➤ Workers have started milling on Youree Drive between Southfield Road and Stoner Avenue in Shreveport as part of a $3.8 million repair project that includes new asphalt, sidewalk fixes and improved drainage—motorists will see lane closures until the project ends in late June. KTBS
- ➤ Gov. Jeff Landry announced Thursday that he moved the state’s homeland security and emergency preparedness office under the Louisiana National Guard to save millions of dollars. The Guard’s Brig. Gen. Jason P. Mahfouz served as interim director (with Maj. Gen. Thomas Friloux providing oversight during the transition) as the state begins this cost-saving change.
