  • On Tuesday, April 1 Library Giving Day will let local residents support Shreve Memorial Library by donating online and dining at Dillas Quesadillas (440 E. Bert Kouns Industrial Loop) from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. A portion of every sale and gift will boost library programs like the Children’s Book Festival, and the campaign will run through National Library Week ending on Saturday, April 12.  Shreveport Times
  • Barksdale Air Force Base honored Shreveport Hometown Heroes on Friday, March 28th as part of the Defenders of Liberty Air Show weekend; local figures Trey Giglio and Bossier City Police Officer Kenny Gallon experienced guided tours and exclusive sessions with pilots and crew. Gallon, who had been recognized after a past heroic incident during a robbery, said his tour—highlighted by his son's cockpit visit—left a lasting impression.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

CRIME NEWS

  • A man named Jordan Tomlinson from Vinton was charged with aggravated arson, simple arson, simple burglary and domestic abuse battery with child endangerment after he set fire to a business on Dewberry Lane on March 27 following a domestic dispute+he is in critical condition at Ochsner LSU Health Center in Shreveport+.  KTAL
  • 19-year-old Eric Dewayne Green was unanimously convicted by a jury for fatally shooting Booker T. Washington student Deanthony Walker on March 28—he is scheduled to return to court on April 14 and faces a mandatory life term with eventual parole eligibility since he was a juvenile at the time.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Centenary College on Centenary Boulevard will host its first Art Stroll on April 3 as a free two-hour event featuring student art in visual arts, poetry, theatre and music and will end with the unveiling of a new sculpture by local artist Bruce Allen to mark the college bicentennial. Dean Cory Wikan said art education is vital to learning and creative growth.  KSLA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana unemployment claims fell last week as initial filings dropped from 1,524 to 1,386 and total claims declined from 225,000 to 224,000—showing a modest decrease in jobless claims, according to the Labor Department. This reduction indicates easing layoffs compared to the week before.  Shreveport Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Shreveport Downtown Development Authority, the Police Department, and Dr. Chelette Holden have joined forces to boost downtown safety—extra officers will patrol two key areas from 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM to deter crime and secure the area for residents and visitors.  Shreveport Times
  • Today, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are performing at the Defenders of Liberty Air Show at Barksdale as guests enjoy aircraft displays and aerobatic routines. Shreveport native Tech. Sgt. Jason Rone — who works in cybersecurity and joined the team in June — is glad to have his family join the event.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • DOTD said the I-20 eastbound ramp at LA 3132 will close from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 5 for crews to remove a damaged sign truss following an 18-wheeler crash + drivers are advised to use the I-20 eastbound to I-220 eastbound ramp as a detour.  Shreveport Times
