COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Steven Kennedy of Steve’s Snaketuary says homeowners should keep their distance from snakes and call professionals for safe removal. He advises keeping grass mowed and eliminating hiding spots to reduce encounters—if bitten, remain calm, take a picture if possible, and call for help at 318—525—6241.  KTAL

CRIME NEWS

  • The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office sought death warrants for two death row inmates—Darrell Dewayne Draughn and Marcus Donte Reed—after filing motions on March 24 and 26, with an opposition to Reed’s motion filed on March 28; both men were convicted of first-degree murder.  KSLA
  • Downtown Shreveport has added more police patrols at night as part of new safety measures set up by the DDA, Shreveport Police, and board member Dr. Chelette Holden—these steps come after fatal shootings downtown. Officers are now stationed in two key areas from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.—the patrols target increased visibility and reduced crime.  KSLA
  • Shreveport Police arrested a woman at 7 a.m. on March 29 for allegedly firing a gun at her sister during an argument at an apartment complex on Patzman Street—no one was hit and both sustained minor injuries.  KSLA
  • Shreveport police stopped a car on March 28 after 9:30 p.m. in the 6900 block of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop when they spotted a gray Corvette matching a stolen vehicle description—suspects DeQuinton Pye and Dementa Bell became evasive, leading to a chase that ended with Pye crashing into a power line and Bell being quickly arrested and both booked in jail.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • After a fatal shooting on Texas Street on March 15th that left four people shot and led to the arrest of Kentavious Taylor for second-degree murder, Club Haze owner Dr. Chelette Holden has boosted safety by hiring four police officers to patrol weekends and by installing extra surveillance cameras from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.—city council members are also discussing more security measures downtown.  KTAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Jeff Landry announced Monday that State Fire Marshal Bryan Adams has been named the new head of the OMV following Commissioner Dan Casey’s resignation for personal reasons+ Landry said Adams is set to modernize the outdated 50-year-old computer system that has caused repeated outages even though a full upgrade could take several years.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Today, the Shreveport Times announced the 2024-2025 All-Area Girls Basketball team, led by the Lakeview Lady Gators who won the LHSAA Non-Select Division IV title—making them state champions. The team features standout players from ten parishes and includes coach Dewaski Fuller—who earned his first championship ring in six seasons after a 22-game winning streak.  Shreveport Times
