COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The new YMCA baseball field in Shreveport will soon open and host its first tournament on April 25.  KSLA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rhino Coffee's south Shreveport location at 1024 Provenance Place will close April 5; the shop, which opened in 2023 and combined coffee with Southern Maid Donuts, will serve its last cup before customers can visit its Uptown or Downtown spots.  Shreveport Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies seized cychlorphine, an opioid stronger than fentanyl according to lab tests, while Shreveport police report not spotting the drug on local streets.  KTBS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Murphy USA at 2705 W 70th St in Shreveport offered the cheapest regular gas at $3.33 while Chevron on Monkhouse Dr charged $4.19; in Bossier City, Walmart Neighborhood Market recorded prices as low as $3.34 (other Murphy USA locations stayed below $3.40).  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Gas prices in Louisiana climbed to $3.63 per gallon on Tuesday as tensions in the Middle East disrupted oil supplies. Orleans, Lafayette and Bossier parishes saw similar increases while East Baton Rouge reported $3.55, and the rise comes after surging global fuel costs since Feb. 28.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sewer repairs are underway in the 6900 block of Buncombe Road (a sinkhole spurred the work) and drivers face detours along the route.  KSLA
  • Yesterday morning, Barksdale Air Force Base corrected local reports on multiple unauthorized drone sightings over the base on March 9 that led to a shelter in place order, which was lifted later that day, and confirmed a federal investigation is ongoing (details remain classified).  KSLA
  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office will begin operating its new Domestic Violence Unit on April 13 to provide immediate support through crisis intervention, legal assistance, and safety planning from its temporary hub (1501 Corporate Drive). The unit will partner with community organizations for coordinated care.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Louisiana will receive an annual check for offshore production revenues—$47 million more than last year—this week to fund coastal restoration and hurricane protection efforts, following a raised federal revenue-sharing cap.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU football coach Lane Kiffin said sophomore defensive end Gabriel Reliford tore his ACL last week during practice and now needs surgery. His injury comes after returning from shoulder surgery that caused him to miss eight games, leaving his season in doubt.  Shreveport Times
  • LSUS Shreveport honored two basketball standouts who earned NAIA All-America honors after their Sweet 16 run; senior forward Hayden Brittingham and sophomore forward Khi Wallace helped the Pilots become one of only two programs with multiple selections this season.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
