- ➤ Two local nonprofits, Shreveport Green and Keep Bossier Beautiful, will host a Double-City Wide Cleanup on April 12 from 8:00 a.m. until noon at Fair Grounds Field in Shreveport where teams will compete for cash prizes by collecting litter and aluminum cans and may also recycle unwanted electronics at designated drop off areas. Teams that collect the most cans will win an extra prize and keep proceeds while volunteers receive a branded t-shirt, trash bags, and protective gear—details that build on last year’s effort which removed 27,242 lbs of litter. - ➤ Delta Utilities, headquartered in Louisiana, announced Tuesday, April 1 that it acquired CenterPoint Energy’s three regulated natural gas local distribution companies serving Louisiana and Mississippi—covering about 12,000 miles of pipeline and 380,000 customers. The company said it will improve operations, create jobs and plans to complete the purchase of Entergy’s companies in New Orleans and Baton Rouge this summer—ensuring reliable service remains uninterrupted. - ➤ At its April 15 meeting, the Caddo Parish School Board will consider closing two schools and merging others, as Chief Operations Officer Patrick Greer outlined proposals that include Willis Knighton Hospital System buying the Queensborough Elementary building. Greer explained that Queensborough may close after this academic year with students rezoned to J.S. Clark Academy while Blanchard Elementary may merge with Donnie Bickham Middle School and the 81st Street Early Childhood Education Center could combine with Atkins Elementary after the 2025-26 school year. - ➤ The Shreveport Fire Department has launched a hiring process for its 76th firefighter class using a mass text & email system called EverBridge to notify applicants with recent Louisiana State Firefighter Civil Service exam scores. - ➤ Gov. Jeff Landry blamed 'far left liberals' for the failure of four constitutional amendments when voters in New Orleans rejected them by large margins on March 29. - ➤ The state’s Department of Transportation completed paving from Stoner Avenue to Kings Highway on Youree Drive.
