ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out at Liberty Energy’s frac pump trailer at 2675 Valley View Drive on Wednesday morning around 10:35 a.m. and brought 30 Shreveport Fire Department units plus police to contain diesel fuel and oil leaks without injuries.  KTBS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • SeaD Consulting's tests in March showed that 50% of eateries along US 190 misrepresented imported shrimp as local catch & nearly 60% of sampled Shreveport restaurants falsely claimed to serve local seafood. The mislabeling coincided with new legislative efforts to enforce seafood origin rules that protect Louisiana shrimpers.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Lowder Baking Company was accepted as a vendor for NASA’s food program after working on space-friendly pastries for two years. The Shreveport bakery’s dehydrated cinnamon rolls were sent for Artemis II’s inaugural flight and went to the moon at 5:24 p.m. central time on April 1.  KSLA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • NLEP announced Wednesday, Apr. 1 that Lloyd D. Nabors Demolition, llc was chosen to remediate the 54-acre former Libbey Glass site at 4302 Jewella Ave in Shreveport. Demolition will start this month, last about a year and recycle about 90% of materials.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The City of Shreveport is launching the 2026 Summer Works Youth Internship Program to connect local high school students to paid, hands-on job experience. The program runs from June 1 to 30 and offers school credit and workplace training with public and private employers.  KTBS
  • Senate Bill 14 would let retired teachers return to classrooms while keeping benefits and earning up to 50% of their final pay, aimed at easing the shortage of 1,200 teachers. The Senate Finance Committee approved the bill Monday + future steps are expected to bring more experienced educators back.  Shreveport Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • April brings increased tornado risk as a shifting jet stream creates unstable air and storm development in Shreveport. Although activity has been low so far, residents are advised to review safety guidelines (such as seeking lower-level shelter) as conditions may change soon.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DOTD will start concrete repairs on Line Ave and Ellerbe Road on April 6 (between East 85th and East Bert Kouns) as part of a $1.6M project to restore local routes.  KSLA
  • The Louisiana Cemetery Board confirmed an agreement with cemetery owner Matthew Seyler to fix deferred maintenance at Forest Park East & West cemeteries in Shreveport. Seyler must submit regular reports in October and April and attend a board meeting in May 2027 to update on improvements.  KTBS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Calvary Baptist earned the District 1-2A boys basketball title on April 1 as it capped an undefeated season. Guard TJ Jamison was named District MVP and Coach Vic Morris was honored as Coach of the Year.  Shreveport Times
  • Captain Shreve and Byrd squared off in a District 1-5A baseball game on March 31, 2026. The contest showcased local talent and provided a competitive display for fans.  Shreveport Times
