COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Firefighters from Shreveport visited Baton Rouge this past weekend to honor two fallen Captains, Mark Allen and Victor Green, by adding their names to the Louisiana Fallen Firefighters Memorial. The ceremony recognized over a century of service and sacrifice and preserves the legacy of local firemen.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Jefferson Lions Club granted $3k to tornado victims on Apr. 2 in Shreveport to help families recover & rebuild their lives during this active tornado season.  KSLA
  • United Way NWLA will open a new financial security center soon to offer financial support and guidance to local residents.  KSLA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Louisiana Economic Partnership has chosen Nabors for remediation and demolition of the former Libbey Glass complex (a 54-acre rail-served industrial site) in Shreveport. Demolition is scheduled to begin in April 2026 and is expected to last about twelve months as the area gets set for modern manufacturing.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four Louisiana Key Academy middle school students won the state Presidential AI Challenge for their dyslexia-helping website WordWizard (a tool that simplifies text) and will compete in regionals on April 16 to advance to Washington, D.C.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Community School reopened its historic campus on Centenary Boulevard with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held Thursday morning to mark World Autism Awareness Day — the building, established in 1912, now offers expanded educational and therapeutic services for neurodiverse students.  KTBS
  • High school students will join Caddo Schools’ 2026 Summer Works Youth Internship Program in June to gain local work experience and earn a $10-per-hour paycheck; the 134-hour program includes 27 classroom hours and 107 on-the-job hours and is a partnership with Shreveport and the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
