- ➤ A homeowner in Shreveport shot a suspect during a suspected car burglary early Saturday morning on University Drive, police said, and the suspect sustained life-threatening injuries to his lower abdomen+ right arm before he was taken to a local hospital. KTBS
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Critical Mass 13 will host performing, literary—and visual art events from across northwest Louisiana that include award announcement performances. The festival schedule will feature various art displays and continue for several days. KSLA
- ➤ Co-founder Ennis Gil said the new Jazz Fest on the Red will bring a family-friendly night of live music—food, art and fashion to Shreveport, and the event is expected to draw local families looking for a fun night out. KSLA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Shreve Memorial Library celebrates National Library Week with free events and workshops at its branches until April 12. The SML Make & Go mobile makerspace visits locations in Caddo Parish offering programs in 3D drawing, coding, sewing and more — all supplies provided. Shreveport Times
- ➤ Caddo Parish schools superintendent Keith Burton said the district will close Blanchard, Queenborough, and Eighty-First Street ECE due to low enrollment and high building maintenance costs, and students will transfer to JS Clark Academy, Donnie Bickham Middle School, or Atkins Elementary while teachers either transfer or fill open positions. The school board will vote on the proposal on April 15 at 4:30 p.m. at its headquarters (1961 Midway Avenue in Shreveport). KTAL

- ➤ Severe thunderstorms disrupted power across the ArkLaTex region as Swepco reported more than 7,000 outages at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Power companies are now assessing damage and working to restore service—major counts include 2,056 outages in Caddo and 3,419 in Bossier. KTBS
- ➤ Mayor Arceneaux presented his 2024 State of the City report on Friday, noting that while a strong fiscal position was achieved with a $29 million reserve, blight remains an issue after 229 mostly residential demolitions. He outlined efforts to boost crime fighting and economic growth, including a partnership with Bloomberg HCLI to develop a long-range plan to reduce neighborhood blight. KTAL
