CRIME NEWS

  • On April 10th, the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) and city agencies conducted Operation ASK BLUE in Highland to target illegal squatting by investigating over 50 properties in response to more than 100 reports, which resulted in five arrests and the seizure of three stray aggressive dogs.  KSLA
  • Donovan Phillips, 46, was convicted this week in Caddo District Court for first-degree rape of a minor who said he began the abuse by claiming he was 'teaching her' about body parts—he now faces a life sentence with sentencing scheduled for April 30.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Louisiana homeowners have seen their insurance rates rise by about 9% after hurricanes hurt the market, leaving many to worry about staying in their homes. Lawmakers have filed many bills + the session starting April 14 will review plans to ease costs as the governor and insurance commissioner differ on reforms.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development began a $1.5 million project on Thursday to improve safety and cut congestion at the I-49 southbound interchange with Southern Loop in south Caddo Parish. The project includes building a new southbound exit lane — while the existing ramp remains open — and will finish by Fall.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry ended his political honeymoon after voters rejected his constitutional changes on March 29 and now faces growing resistance in the Legislature. He is set to begin his second regular session on Monday — where he will confront pushback over car insurance reform — as opposition rises among House lawmakers.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Mayor Tom Arceneaux announced that Government Plaza now has tighter security — a process initiated in previous administrations and refined with input from Sheriff Whitehorn — and that Youree Drive is being repaved in sections, with work from Kings Highway to Southfield Road set to finish in late June.  KTAL
