COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Providence House, a nonprofit that helps homeless families, cleaned up its campus downtown during Love the Boot Week by pulling weeds and collecting 23 bags of litter & refreshing rock beds. The event showed the nonprofit’s commitment to a clean neighborhood and strengthened community ties.  KTAL
  • Morning Star Baptist Church hosted its Service Saturday Sharing event yesterday, offering free breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and clothing at its gym (5340 Jewella Avenue) from (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.). The event is part of Resurrection Week that will feature musical concerts, guest speakers and other community activities.  KSLA

CRIME NEWS

  • Shreveport police are asking the public to help find Christopher Dallas, a 23-year-old man with severe autism who was last seen on April 4 in the 600 block of Browning Street wearing a black shirt, black pants, and yellow socks while riding a children’s bicycle, and they urge anyone with information to call 318-673-7300 or 911.  KTAL
  • Shreveport police are searching for 12-year-old Zyra’Kem Copeland, who was last seen riding his red bicycle away from his home on the 2600 block of Valley Ridge Road on April 12 between 6:00 and 6:15 p.m.—he is described as having a short afro and wearing a blue Spiderman t-shirt, blue jeans, and mismatched shoes.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Shreveport Journalism Conference will be held at LSU-Shreveport on April 26 to give students the chance to learn news broadcasting, public relations and sports promotion skills from local professionals. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with registration in IdeaSpace at Bronson Hall (1 University Pl) and promises a certificate of completion to participants.  KTAL
  • Parents gathered on the sidewalk outside Queensborough Elementary after a meeting with Caddo Parish district leaders—organized by the Queensborough Neighborhood Association to discuss the planned school closure—was canceled due to protocol issues this morning. Some parents said they will attend the next school board meeting as the board votes on the school closure on April 15th at 4:30 p.m.  KTAL
