ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A possible train derailment occurred in downtown Shreveport on April 14th when 10 fire units (with four police units) responded to a major accident on Clyde Fant Parkway at 1:45 p.m. Shreveport Times
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Shreveport police are searching for Brittany Lopez and Jennifer Hutson, who are accused of exploiting an elderly stroke victim by fraudulently withdrawing money from her bank accounts while she was in a nursing home (arrest warrants have been issued and detectives are continuing the investigation). - ➤ On April 10, the Shreveport Police Department launched Operation Ask Blue to crack down on squatting-related crimes by arresting three individuals for ordinance violations+ detaining two additional suspects for possessing a stolen handgun and outstanding warrants+ after inspecting 40 abandoned residences in Highland. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Youree Drive is now smoother — all lanes have been fully repaved along the 3-mile stretch from Stoner Avenue to Southfield Road. Motorists may face delays as the contractor adjusts manholes and repairs turnouts at intersections — permanent striping will be installed and the work will finish in late June. KTBS
- ➤ The Department of Water — Sewerage has issued a voluntary boil advisory for parts of Shreveport due to water main repair work affecting these areas. The advisory will remain until water samples are collected, tested and confirmed safe, covering blocks along West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Blom Boulevard, Hillside Avenue, Ridgewood, Belhaven, Baird Road, Francais, Waymon Drive, Urban Dale and Cynthia Lane. - ➤ Senator Stewart Cathey proposed a bill to ban automated speed enforcement devices and red light cameras—he says the devices are unfair to local residents. Lawmakers will vote on the proposal in the next legislative session, which could change current traffic enforcement rules. Shreveport Times
