ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A teenager in Shreveport was hit by a Chevy Avalanche pickup truck Tuesday morning at the Villa del Lago Apartments on Milam St. while boarding a school bus, and he is conscious though being taken to a hospital—police said the driver is on scene and citation decisions are pending.  KSLA
  • A 17-year-old waiting for his school bus on the 3500 block of Milam Street was hit Tuesday morning when a Chevrolet Avalanche driver passed a stopped bus and drove off, breaking his arm and prompting citations (including an expired license, no insurance, and reckless operation).  Shreveport Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Eric Dewayne Green, a 19-year-old Shreveport teen convicted in late March of fatally shooting a Booker T. Washington student three years ago, was sentenced to a mandatory life term on Monday, April 14—he will be eligible for parole later due to his juvenile status at the time of the killing.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • Bossier City police arrested three teenagers on Monday morning in connection with a shots fired call in the 3000 block of Oliver Street—18-year-old Datalion Goode faces three counts of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property while 17-year-olds Caleb Ramon Lane and Calvin Raymon Morris Jr. are charged with burglary; shell casings were found at the scene and two vehicles were towed with no injuries reported.  KTBS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Throughout April, Shreve Memorial Library is hosting Easter programs that include interactive storytimes, dancing, crafts, and egg hunts at various branches—today the Broadmoor Branch offers a storytime at 10:00 a.m. while the Atkins and Belcher-Wyche Branches hold egg hunts on April 15 and April 17, respectively.  KTAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The DeSoto Parish School Board approved a $17.1M expansion for North DeSoto Lower Elementary and North DeSoto Middle at its April 10 meeting, with plans to add more than 35,000 square feet of new construction plus renovate over 7,000 square feet at the elementary and add 13,000 square feet at the middle school. Board President Donnie Dufour said the project is a proactive measure to meet current needs and prepare for nearly 1,000 additional students by 2027.  KTAL
  • The DeSoto Parish School Board approved a $17.1 million project on April 10 to expand North DeSoto Lower Elementary and Middle School—adding 35,420 square feet to the lower elementary and 13,069 square feet to the middle school with new classrooms, a band hall, and updated facilities—and the improvements will ease overcrowding while supporting growing student enrollment.  KSLA

  • Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington warned local business owners after an ICE job compliance check on April 8 in North Bossier led to the detention of undocumented workers; he urged them to review I-9 forms + consult immigration attorneys to avoid fines and other penalties.  Shreveport Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The water district has issued a boil advisory for about 120 homes in Dogwood Trail Subdivision after a contractor struck a water main on April 14 and shut off the supply for two hours. Water samples will be tested tomorrow—residents must boil their tap water until Shreveport public health confirms it is safe.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
