  • Aniyah Blunt, a high school student from Booker T. Washington High School, secured a grant from the Stop Hunger Foundation’s YSA program to lead a project in Shreveport that taught local families to reduce food waste and prepare healthy meals—she also joined local youth in a Good Friday service to serve seniors at the Martin Luther King Community Center.  KTAL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ruston broke ground on an $8M project to widen Tarbutton Road at the I-20 interchange to support a new Buc-ee's travel center set to start construction around May 1. Officials expect the center to draw 15,000 vehicles daily—80% from over 200 miles away—and create 200 jobs paying $18-$20 per hour.  Shreveport Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Colton Davis, a correctional officer at Bossier Parish Correctional Facility, was arrested and terminated on charges of malfeasance in office and introducing contraband into the facility—investigators continue to examine the case to ensure his actions do not reflect the office's values.  Shreveport Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ten students at North DeSoto High School signed letters of intent last Thursday in the school gym during the first Career and Technical Education Signing Day, committing to full-time work with local business partners after graduation. NDHS Principal Joseph Saverino and counselor Ashley Terry said the event marks a new tradition that supports students entering high-wage and high-demand career fields.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Southern Regional Climate Center shut down because its federal funding expired, cutting off near real-time climate data for government agencies and private companies across the region + local experts worry the loss may impact drought monitoring and future weather forecasts. Louisiana State Climatologist Jay Grymes said the data was crucial until alternative funding is secured.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today at 6 p.m. on KPXJ, Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux delivered his State of the City address, reporting a $29 million operating reserve and a major drop in homicides despite lower sales tax revenue and the end of American Rescue Plan funds. He warned that replacing 229 demolished houses and revitalizing older neighborhoods remain key challenges for the city.  KTBS

  • Captain Shreve opened the Select Division I softball playoffs with a 10-0 win over Woodlawn-Baton Rouge on Friday in Shreveport. Ella Hendrick pitched six innings of one-hit ball, struck out 12 batters, and went 3-for-4 at the plate— the team now prepares to face Mt.
