COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tomorrow, the Taco Wars festival returns to the Municipal Auditorium where local taquerias will compete for awards — including the Golden Taco and Golden Molcajete — and offer free salsa samples, voting, and live music by Mariachi Los Caporales and Los Primos NG from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Shreveport Times
  • Families in the Shreveport-Bossier area will enjoy free summer activities—such as SPAR summer camp from May 19 to August 8 and a First Responders Fun Day on May 17—as the school year ends. Additional events including Mobile Dental Clinic visits, a Knights Basketball Clinic, and youth sports camps will offer a range of free programs for local children.  KTAL
  • In Shreveport, Sharon Boykin of Sharon’s Defensive Driving School trains teens on safe driving as the city has recorded thirteen fatal car accidents in 2025. With graduation season near, she offers in-person classes on East 70th Street and online courses (to curb distracted driving) (for teen safety).  KSLA
  • North Louisiana’s largest day of philanthropy will take place on Tuesday, May 6th and involve 232 organizations aiming to raise $3 million through early donations. Community Foundation of North Louisiana (CFNLA) is accepting contributions and has created a bonus pool to boost the fundraising effort.  KTAL

CRIME NEWS

  • A Dallas man was convicted in Caddo District Court for the January 2022 killing of Shreveporter Jermond Houston at a West 70th Street convenience store—he will be sentenced on May 15 to a mandatory life term without the chance for probation, parole, or suspension.  KTBS
  • Shreveport Police arrested Floyd McDuffy on Monday, April 21, after a traffic stop on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard showed he was speeding and driving with a suspended license while appearing intoxicated (found with a stolen firearm) and faces charges (third DWI offense, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, and driving on a suspended license).  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • Dozens of Shreveport leaders traveled to Baton Rouge on April 24th for Caddo Parish Day—Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux, Parish Administrator Erica Bryant and Caddo Schools Superintendent Keith Burton provided updates—where they met with state lawmakers and cabinet members including Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley and Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser during a policy summit.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today the undefeated LSUS Pilots hold their final regular-season series in Shreveport after weather moved the games from their campus—at noon, they face Jarvis Christian in a doubleheader and will set a new college baseball record for the longest winning streak if they take the first two games. The team already holds NAIA records for most season wins and consecutive wins and now has 44-0 on its record.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
