CRIME NEWS

  • Noel Deon Garner was found guilty of second-degree murder for killing Jermond Houston 26 times at a West 70th Street Shell convenience store in January 2022—he will face sentencing on May 15.  KTAL
  • Crime in Shreveport dropped this year as shots fired calls fell from 634 last year to nearly half that number, aided by increased community cooperation and advanced technology — improved cameras and software enhance safety.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Taco Wars in Shreveport Common near the historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium features local taquerias competing for Best Taco and Best Salsa while treat vendors and live music add to the festive atmosphere—food and drink tickets will be available for $1 each.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Centenary College hosts Beast Feast — a scholarship fundraiser on Jones-Rice Field where free food samples and drinks, including off-menu dishes and classic southern favorites, are served from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. — while teams compete for the Best of Beast Feast title with tickets priced at $25 in advance and $40 at the door, free for children 12 and under.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DOTD announced that several on and off ramps along I-20 in Shreveport will reopen starting April 28 — including the Old Minden Road ramp on Monday evening and the Industrial Drive off-ramp on May 2. The I-20 eastbound off-ramp at Barksdale Blvd will close on April 29 for three months of reconstruction, and project work is 77% complete with final completion expected by late 2025 or early 2026.  Shreveport Times
  • Residents of Northwood II Apartments face forced relocation after their landlord stopped paying the mortgage and the sheriff’s office seized the property—local housing officials provided vouchers to cap rent at 30% of income. Tenants must claim their vouchers by Wednesday and move within 60 days or arrange an extension.  KTBS

SPORTS NEWS

  • North DeSoto beat Breaux Bridge 11-0 to close its best-of-three series and move on to state baseball quarterfinals—Reni Mason had 3 hits including a double, a home run and 5 RBIs, while Luke Delafield pitched a three-hitter. Calvary swept Lafayette Christian in a doubleheader with wins of 3-2 and 8-4—Benton was the only winner in his series, beating Ruston 10-0.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • The Calvary Baptist Academy Lady Cavaliers defeated Bunkie 15-0 in three innings—Baylor Bockhaus hit a record-setting home run while teammate Kynzee Anderson pitched an abbreviated no hitter to advance to the Select Division III semifinals. They will face either No.5 Jewel Sumner or No.4 Parkview Baptist next Friday at noon in Sulphur.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
