ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Shreveport Police say that on Friday, April 25 at 8:46 p.m. a silver Chevrolet Traverse stalled on I-49 North at Kings Highway and was struck by a northbound Dodge truck—its driver was taken to Ochsner Health LSU Hospital and later died from severe injuries.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 Taco Wars was held April 26 outside Shreveport Municipal Auditorium and drew a record crowd while generating over $168,000 in revenue for local businesses. A celebrity panel awarded La Villa Taqueria $1,000 for Best Taco and both Ramirez Mexican Restaurant and Taqueria San Miguel $500 each for Best Salsa—highlighting a vibrant celebration of Latino culture.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell demanded answers from SWEPCO and Southwest Power Pool after a six‐hour outage on April 26 left over 30,000 people without power in Bossier, Caddo, and Webster parishes. He will hold a news conference today at 10 a.m. to ask what steps will be taken to prevent such outages in the future.  KSLA
  • Gov. Jeff Landry proposed a legislative agenda on April 9 to reform Louisiana's insurance market—his plan aims to lower high auto and home insurance rates by curbing lawyer ads and increasing transparency in rate setting as insurers struggle amid harsh weather events.  Shreveport Times

  • LSU Shreveport’s baseball team broke the record for the longest winning streak among four-year schools on April 26, 2025 when it won both games against Jarvis Christian—improving its season record to 47 to 0. The team will play in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament from May 1 to 5 in Sterlington—followed by an NAIA Regional contest from May 12 to 15.  KSLA
  • Eight former Independence Bowl players were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft including first round pick Matthew Golden by the Packers and players chosen by the Commanders, Chiefs, Chargers, Raiders, Patriots, Eagles and Bengals, while five alumni signed as undrafted free agents and five received minicamp invites—continuing the local legacy.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
