COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pop-tart is a sweet four-month-old tabby kitten at Caddo Parish Animal Services who has been in care since April 3rd and is ready to find a loving home. Those interested in adopting her must visit the facility on Monty Street, complete the paperwork, and pay a $50 fee—she is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated.  KTAL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The abandoned Oak Meadows Apartment caught fire for the seventh time in 2025 on April 29th (12 fire units) and (34 firefighters) responded to control the blaze.  KSLA

CRIME NEWS

  • Shreveport police and several agencies conducted Operation Curveball last week and arrested nearly 200 individuals—seizing $115,000 in illegal drugs, various weapons, and $30,000 in cash while shutting down two vaping businesses after narcotics were found.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • ArtBreak 2025 starts this week at the Shreveport Convention Center with events on Friday, May 2 from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The free festival, hosted by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council, celebrates its 39th year by showcasing over 2,500 student artworks and more than 100 performances from schools across Caddo Parish — a highlight in local arts education.  KTAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Graduation ceremonies for Caddo Parish Schools will take place at the Shreveport Convention Center from May 13 to May 16, with individual high schools hosting sessions between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. — Bossier Parish Schools will hold graduations on May 16 at Plain Dealing High and on May 17 at Brookshire Grocery Arena, with events scheduled from early morning to evening.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell held a press conference with SWEPCO and SPP about a power outage that occurred on April 26, leaving 32,000 customers in Caddo and Bossier parishes without service. SWEPCO and SPP said they cut power as a last resort to stop a risk of much larger outages — they will produce a report in one to two months to help prevent future events.  KTAL

  • Benton and Loyola will host state quarterfinal baseball series at home starting Thursday with games set for Thursday, Friday, and possibly Saturday if needed—while Calvary’s baseball and softball teams head to south Louisiana for playoff action, with the softball squad set to face Parkview Baptist in a Friday noon state semifinal.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
