  • Praise Temple hosted a citywide prayer event and forum today to discuss peace and mental health with neighbors, clergy, community leaders, and families. The meeting focused on youth mentoring, support for mental health, and practical steps to break the cycle of violence.  KSLA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Brookshire Grocery Co. celebrated the grand re-openings of its three remodeled stores in northwest Louisiana—two on Line Ave. and Mansfield Rd in Shreveport and one on Airline Dr in Bossier City—with ribbon-cutting ceremonies that featured a 13-foot Big Grocery Cart and $1,000 donations to local services.  KTBS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Twin brothers Mike and Mark Mangham spent over a decade merging vintage and modern photos — a method that preserves Shreveport history. They met Wednesday morning along the riverfront with KTBS 3 meteorologist Brian Fowler to discuss steamboats on the Red River.  KTBS
  • Shreveport's Taco Wars festival will take place at the Municipal Auditorium on May 2 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Local taquerias will compete for the Golden Taco and Golden Molcajete awards while visitors enjoy free salsa tastings and live music by local Mariachi groups.  Shreveport Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Centenary College received a $1M donation yesterday to create the John Garrett Ratcliff Endowed Chair of Philosophy in memory of alumnus Thomas Ratcliff. The gift will fund faculty research, travel, and updates to classrooms and a dedicated reading room.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A portion of LA-173 between Elder Street, North Holtzman Avenue and Common Street is set to be renamed the Dr. Harry Blake Sr. Memorial Highway after a Senate vote on April 29, honoring the civil rights pastor and activist known for his 1960s work (he died in 2020 at 85).  Shreveport Times
  • Bossier City's last public pool at Mike Wood Park will close this summer due to low attendance, staffing issues and safety concerns—officials plan to replace it with a splash pad by summer 2027.
