  • On April 26, six Shreveport high school freshmen from Troop 15 earned the Eagle Scout rank at a Court of Honor ceremony. They completed projects such as restoring a historic cemetery, building a basketball playground, and planting more than 750 trees — work that showed their strong commitment to the community.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Walmart will remodel 35 Louisiana stores as part of its national Stores of the Future project—which will update over 650 locations this year with modern layouts and energy-efficient upgrades. The plans include expanded online pickup, new pharmacy areas, and tens of thousands of new jobs, according to a news release.  Shreveport Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Louisiana State Police investigated an overnight officer-involved shooting in Bossier City after they were called at about 12:30 a.m. on Venecia Drive near Barksdale Air Force Base, and they are reviewing the facts of the incident.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 21st annual Highland Jazz and Blues Festival will take place on Saturday, September 13 at Columbia Park—Shreveport's Historic Highland Neighborhood— and will feature three stages including top performer Kenny Neal, local acts, and over 70 food and vendor booths. The free event will also offer a new Inspiration Stage for local school bands, a children's and pet area, and a free shuttle service with official poster art designed by a Northwood High School senior.  Shreveport's Secrets

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana DOTD said it will apply a supplemental surface treatment—meant to increase road friction—on I-220 near the I-49 interchange in Shreveport to help reduce accidents. The work will occur overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in two phases from May 11 to 15 and from May 18 to 22.  Shreveport Times
  • Bossier City voters approved a term limits proposal on March 29 but will vote Saturday on a retroactive version that would bar council members with more than three terms from running again (the new limits aim to bring fresh ideas to local government).  Shreveport Times
  • William Daniel, who has led the city's Water & Sewer department since 2020, announced he will resign on May 6 as he moves closer to family in south Louisiana. Mayor Tom Arceneaux thanked him for his service and named Deputy Director Brandon Snead as Interim Director until a permanent replacement is confirmed.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
