- ➤ On May 1 at 10:20 a.m., fire crews responded to a two—alarm fire at the vacant Villa Norté Apartments on the 1600 block of Fullerton Street near North Hearne Avenue where over 30 units arrived to fight flames from three buildings—no injuries were reported as investigators review the cause. KSLA
- ➤ A small fire broke out at the vacant Oak Meadows apartment complex in Shreveport early Friday morning (marking the sixth fire at the property in less than a week) and firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze with no injuries reported. KTBS

- ➤ Shreveport police said the Caddo Parish Coroner identified 19-year-old Jarius D. Pennywell as the victim of a Thursday night shooting on the 500 block of Fuller Street in Morningside—he was shot at a block party during a balloon release and died after being taken to Ochsner LSU Health, with authorities noting he is the 11th homicide victim this year. - ➤ Two Shreveport residents were sentenced in federal court for bank fraud and counterfeit checks totaling $2.15 million—Destane Glass, 24, received an 11-year, 3-month sentence to be served after her COVID relief fraud term, and 23-year-old ZarRajah Z. - ➤ Northwestern State University's College of Nursing celebrated 75 years and honored the late Dr. Joel Hicks with nearly $12,000 in scholarship funds as part of its long service in nursing and allied health. The college will hold a second reception on May 8— from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the NSU CENLA campus in Alexandria— to continue the celebration with local figures including Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux.
