  • SkyWest Airlines — the country's largest regional airline — will open a maintenance base at Shreveport Regional Airport — which is expected to boost local job prospects — in the coming months.  KSLA

CRIME NEWS

  • Shreveport police arrested Joe White after he barricaded himself inside a house on May 3rd in the 7300 block of Camelback Drive following his assault on an 86-year-old woman delivering food to his mother—doctors later reported her injuries and police now charge him with attempted second-degree murder.  KTAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • SkyWest Airlines selected Shreveport Regional Airport as its new maintenance base to support its fleet of nearly 500 aircraft, a move that will create 150 direct jobs and 375 indirect jobs. The facility will be operational in the second half of 2025—boosting local opportunities.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Shreve Memorial Library’s Hollywood/Union Avenue Branch in partnership with Gibsland Bank and Trust will offer free financial literacy seminars throughout May on topics such as credit, saving, budgeting, and identity theft. The sessions will be held each Wednesday at noon (today: Understanding Credit; May 14: Saving: Paying Yourself First; May 21: Budgeting in 2025; May 28: Identity Theft) at the library (2105 Hollywood Ave).  KTAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A severe thunderstorm and tornado warning passed through Shreveport Tuesday afternoon, and law enforcement responded to heavy 911 calls as residents took shelter from flooding and downed trees. Over 11,000 households in nearby parishes lost power by 4:50 p.m.—officials noted that a tornado touchdown was not confirmed.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Less than one-third of Louisiana drivers have secured REAL ID licenses as federal rules requiring valid IDs for air travel start today. Louisiana OMV Commissioner Bryan Adams said drivers not flying should wait a few weeks—OMV offices are already full and wait times are long—without penalty.  Shreveport Times
  • Residents in Shreveport and Caddo Parish can pick up free sandbags to lessen flood risks with a limit of 15 per vehicle. They are available at the Shreveport Streets and Drainage Warehouse at 3825 Mansfield Rd. from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and at the Caddo Parish Department of Public Works at 1701 Monty St. from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday — check the location that best fits your schedule — to prepare for possible flooding.  Shreveport Times
