  • Jerry Glenn Rogers won KSLA’s 2026 Yard of the Week contest on May 7 (the first winner announced) as his yard impressed local judges.  KSLA
  • BOM Bank sponsored Designer Bag Bingo hosted by the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier to support local programs including MAGIC (Mentoring Ambitious Girls to Inspire Change), Red River Revel’s Artist for a Day and the JLSB Red Apron Pantry, and the bank team joined the event to celebrate community impact.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Louisiana State Exhibit Museum hosts the closing event for Sea Monsters Unearthed: Going Extinct! today through Sunday from 12-4 p.m. The free, family-friendly exhibit features a full mosasaur skeleton, a recreated dig site, and a 2 p.m. special presentation on Sunday, created in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution.  KTBS

  • Louisiana Economic Development held its Spotlight Louisiana Awards on Thursday at the Manship Theatre to honor five small businesses driving job growth and innovation. Donaldsonville-based Marks Construction was named Small and Emerging Business of the Year while other winners received awards for entrepreneurial leadership and innovation.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Senate Bill 82 to restrict four-day school weeks stalled after lawmakers proposed many exemptions for local districts — a move that leaves future changes in limbo ahead of the June 1 session.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana approved a recreational alligator hunting season for up to 5,000 lottery-selected hunters, each with a two-gator limit using hook and line on designated property. Gov. Landry signed the bill May 7, and the season may start as soon as Oct.1 (a controlled method to manage a 3 million alligator population).  Shreveport Times

  • Plain Dealing senior Brianna Newton won gold in shot put and discus at the LHSAA Outdoor Track Field Championships at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium on Thursday using a final discus throw to claim a double title; junior Jakayla Douglas achieved a personal best in the high jump.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl Foundation announced a 50th anniversary celebration featuring online fan campaigns, downtown fireworks + themed tailgate experiences, and a free youth football clinic that will run Saturday, June 6 from 8-11 a.m. at Independence Stadium with registration limited to 400 participants.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
