  • A Shreveport native was named president of the Jobs for American Graduates Career Association on May 10 and now leads the group to boost career support in the community — officials said he will introduce new initiatives in his term.  KSLA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Shreveport Fire Department fought a large house fire on Ellerbe Road that was declared a total loss after 42 firefighters responded just after 7 p.m. Friday — the crew brought the blaze under control by 8:30 p.m., one person escaped unharmed and the cause is under investigation.  KTBS

  • Brittney Hazelton from ArkLaTex Artistry visited the historic R.W. Norton Art Gallery at 4747 Creswell Avenue—an iconic venue built in 1966 by the Norton family that houses renowned art pieces and modern exhibitions. The gallery also features a 40-acre botanical garden developed from Mrs. Norton’s love of nature and remains a hidden gem for local visitors.  KSLA

  • Caddo Parish Public Schools teacher Alyson Humphery Smith of A.C. Steere Elementary School has been named a quarterfinalist for the 2026 GRAMMY Music Educator Award by the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum, joining 200 educators chosen from (over 2,000 nominations) nationwide.  KTAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry is backing measures that will bar noncitizens and foreign entities from funding ballot measure campaigns, as proposed in Senate Bill 109 and House Bill 590. The proposals (supported by Sen. Alan Seabaugh and Rep. Annie Spell) aim to close a loophole and could subject violators to felony charges.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • The North DeSoto baseball team beat Lutcher 3-2 to advance to the LHSAA championship series—players celebrated their win with strong team spirit.  Shreveport Times
  • Yesterday, the North DeSoto baseball team defeated Lutcher 3+2 in a 20-inning game as Bryant LaCour pitched a complete game and drove in the winning run to advance to the LHSAA Non-Select Division II championship in Sulphur against either Brusly or West Ouachita next week. The win served as a special Mother's Day gift for the players' moms+ and set the stage for a strong showing in the championship contest.  Shreveport Times
