  • Fifteen years after Fire Chief Tommy Adams died in the line of duty, his daughter Kristen Adams graduated from LSU Health Shreveport as a doctor. Chief Clarence Reese gave her the late chief’s helmet — a cherished symbol of a legacy passed on.  KSLA
  • Youth Peace and Justice Foundation today announced an emergency relief fund to help Shreveport victims + the program will offer essential support, with eligibility details expected soon.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local music legend Buddy Flett died at 73 after a long career performing at the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival — organizers plan to honor his memory at this year’s event.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new report by national consultants commissioned by Louisiana Kids Matter finds that the longstanding school funding system does not give enough money to schools in need. Education officials called the proposed changes unworkable at a private meeting and said further review is expected.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New earthquake monitors installed in northwest Louisiana after a March 5 quake in Coushatta are now recording many small tremors, including a 1.3 event on May 3. USGS officials say the upgrades improve data on quake clusters, which may be linked to oil and gas wastewater disposal (induced seismicity).  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
