CRIME NEWS

  • Police identified the victim of the Carroll Street shooting after officials confirmed the home was shot from the outside—further investigation is underway.  KSLA
  • On April 25, Shreveport Police asked the public for help locating runaway 17-year-old Ricki Fisher, who was last seen in the 4700 block of Westwood Park wearing a pink jacket and black leggings and measuring about 5’2” tall and weighing 140 pounds; anyone with information is urged to call the police at (318-673-7300) or Crime Stoppers at (318-673-7373).  KTBS
  • Shreveport police arrested Demarcusse Brown after a fight broke out at a Head Start graduation on St. Vincent Avenue on May 12—Brown left the event, returned with a stolen gun, and escalated the conflict, resulting in charges for possessing a firearm on school property, possessing a stolen firearm, and disturbing the peace while another man received a summons.  KSLA
  • Shreveport Police arrested two armed individuals, Amarion Turner and Jeffrey McDay, after an assault on a Walmart employee on May 11 just after 6:30 p.m. at the store on 1125 Shreveport Barksdale Highway—Turner is charged with illegal carrying of a firearm while McDay is charged with aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Louisiana achieved its highest ever ranking for pre-K through 12 education according to a U.S. News & World Report study—recording a 37th place that marks notable progress for the state's schools.  KSLA
  • The Bossier Parish School Board announced the Class of 2025 valedictorians and salutatorians from Airline, Benton, Bossier, Haughton, Parkway and Plain Dealing High Schools, recognizing the top two students from each school. The announcement highlights names such as Barrett LeBon and Chloe Tran from Airline High — these awards honor student excellence as they prepare for future academic and career challenges.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CPSO has suggested five simple ways for residents to honor law enforcement during National Police Week from May 12 to May 18, including writing thank you notes and attending a memorial ceremony today at 10 a.m. at the Bossier City Complex—steps designed to remember fallen officers and support active service members.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • LSUS, known as the Pilots, remained unbeaten after an 11-run win on Tuesday and will try to clinch a full sweep and a spot in the NAIA World Series today at 4:30 on their homefield at Pilots Field (if they lose, they will face a rematch Thursday for the regional championship).  Shreveport Bossier Journal
