ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Local businesses in Shreveport face rising costs after a 90-day tariff pause announced on May 9 + business owner Ronnetra Green raised her accessory prices from $5 to $8 in response to increased wholesale rates + with concerns growing over future trade impacts. KSLA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Work on the new $361.7 million Jimmie Davis Bridge across the Red River is progressing well as crews lay foundations and begin roadway construction, following a May 2024 start. The four-lane bridge will open to traffic in early 2027 — and the old bridge is planned to become a state park when the project wraps up in early 2028. KSLA
- ➤ On May 13th, hundreds of private school students rallied with Gov. Jeff Landry for support of LA GATOR—a program that helps parents pay for private education—as AFP's Scott Simon spoke for full funding. The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
- ➤ Mayor Arceneaux visited the KSLA studio on May 14 to talk about problems with squatting—he also discussed plans with Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson and said new measures may come soon. KSLA
- ➤ Harvard fellow Rachel Fischer will help city Attorney Marcus Edwards and Mayor Tom Arceneaux fight blight in Shreveport for 10 weeks starting in June—she holds a bachelor's in architecture and is pursuing a master's in urban planning at Harvard. The city will use her expertise to develop new strategies for improving local neighborhoods. Shreveport Times
