  • Community Caregivers of Northwest Louisiana held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday in Shreveport to open its new Bradford Center — named for longtime board member Willie Bradford — which will serve as a hub for economic empowerment, leadership development and community outreach while also housing the organization’s Small Business and Nonprofit Incubator.  KTBS

CRIME NEWS

  • Caddo District Judge Ramona Emanuel sentenced Travis June—35 to 40 years in prison for his conviction of attempted molestation of a 10-year-old in October 2023—and Brandon McDuffy—43 to 9 years and 6 months for his conviction in the sexual battery of a 17-year-old that began in 2018.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fifth-grader Mary Mack Thornton from Eden Gardens Elementary was named Louisiana's Elementary Student of the Year on Friday at a ceremony in Baton Rouge—she maintained a 4.0 GPA and excelled in academics, sports, and art while also taking part in community service. HEALTH NEWS

  • LSU Health Shreveport hosted a neurosurgery surgical skills workshop for medical students—offering hands-on training with scalpels, drills and simulators—and faculty and residents demonstrated key techniques and the seven-year residency process.  KTAL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Red River FC will launch its inaugural season with a Media Day and exhibition match today at 6 p.m. at Freedom Fields in Bossier City — the event gives local fans a first look at the team ahead of their official season debut next week.  KTBS
  • Today, teams in the LHSAA state baseball championship series compete at McMurry Park in Sulphur; in Non-Select Division I, Live Oak and Sam Houston are tied 1—1 with game 3 set for 5:30 p.m., in Division II, North DeSoto and Brusly are tied 1—1 with game 3 at 2 p.m., and in Division III, Sterlington and Erath are tied 1—1 with game 3 at 11 a.m. In Select Divisions, Catholic—BR already won its series 2—0 over Brother Martin while Teurlings Catholic versus E.D.
