  • The Northwest Louisiana Master Gardeners will open five private gardens for the public from May 31 to June 1—visitors can tour sites in Shreveport, Benton, and Bossier while a Garden Bazaar at the Red River Research Station features food trucks and vendors. Advance tickets are $10 and available at local sites, with on-day tickets costing $15—ticket proceeds will support Master Gardener projects.  KTAL

  • A commercial remodel permit for a new Total Wine and More at 7081 Youree Drive has been issued in Shreveport—TDS Construction Inc. of Bradenton, Florida will handle the over $2.1 million project at the former Conn’s HomePlus next to Lowe’s, with work set to begin soon.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana in Bossier City opened on Valentine’s Day weekend and showed strong revenue growth with $7,420,893 in February rising to $12,328,669 in March. National magazine Casino Player named its Ridotto Grand Café and PBR Cowboy Bar among the best while Bally’s earned five statewide awards — and Margaritaville Casino Resort posted $15,808,935, highlighting a competitive local market.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Golden Chick launched a summer special called the Pimento Crunchwich—a fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese spread, jalapeño crisps and dill pickles—and will open up to two new locations in Bossier City over the next 12 to 14 months before adding another Shreveport store.   • Three men were indicted by a Shreveport federal grand jury on illegal re-entry, drug trafficking and firearm charges—Homero Arroyo-Ayala faces up to a life sentence for meth distribution and carrying an untraceable 9 mm handgun while Erik Alexis Valladares-Corea and Arile Mauricio Zelaya-Pineda could face 15 and 10 years respectively.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Artport is hosting a new exhibition that celebrates the Shreveport-Bossier area after several years away—local visitors can explore fresh works on display.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parkway High School teacher Julie Edwards is retiring after 40 years and is known for launching the school's broadcasting program and directing plays. Courtney Smith will take over her broadcast and tech theater classes, and Edwards will work as a lighting designer for local theaters after her final day on May 20 — continuing her support for students.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After months of pause, work on the state office building in downtown Shreveport will restart in July with new interior work and a parking garage. Broadmoor LLC is inviting bids by May 28 and will provide a maximum price by June 6 — the project is expected to finish in late spring or summer 2027.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
