Gibsland Bank & Trust Company will merge with Marion State Bank in an acquisition that expands its network into Ouachita and Union Parish with five new branches along the I-20 corridor.
The deal is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2026.

Counter Culture at 6360 Youree Drive, Suite A2 now offers more than frozen yogurt, including fresh soups, salads and hot sandwiches.

Louisiana voters rejected Amendment 3 on Saturday, May 16 at C.E.
Byrd High School in Shreveport; the measure would have permanently raised teacher and support staff pay by dissolving state education trust funds. With 58% opposing, educators now face uncertain compensation next year.
Caddo Parish Public Schools named Cortney McCall as principal of Bethune/Oak Park Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year; he brings a strong background in school improvement and community engagement and will begin his role at the start of the academic year.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office held a graduation ceremony on May 14 for Class 60 of its Regional Training Academy, where graduates from ten law enforcement agencies completed over 516 hours of training and earned awards for firearms, academics + leadership.
The event marked an important milestone in their law enforcement careers.

New data shows that median home sale prices in Caddo Parish fell from $214,500 in January to $186,000 in February, a 13.3% drop, and were 6.1% lower than last February as figures from Realtor.com reflect pricing from property deeds.
🏈 Sports
Shreveport native Sam Burns made a strong run at the PGA Championship on Saturday, recording four straight birdies and finishing at even par after key mistakes on the back nine.
He is set to compete next week at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
The Shreveport Times has opened online voting for High School Athlete of the Week featuring 15 students from local high schools in non-football sports — votes will be accepted through Friday with the winner announced Sunday.
