COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Starting June 2, eligible Caddo Parish seniors will receive fans Monday—Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon through a program run by the Caddo Council on Aging. The program accepts new fan donations and will continue until August 29.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Sextortion scams trick children into sending pictures on social media and online games and then threaten to share them if they do not send more or pay money—experts say many of the victims are boys and the true number of cases could be much higher than reported.  KTBS
  • Thomas Lee Adam Davis, 50, pleaded guilty on May 19 in Caddo District Court after law enforcement found meth lab equipment in a self-storage unit during a raid on February 1 — he will return on June 24 for sentencing and may face 5 to 15 years in prison and a fine up to $25,000.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • On May 18, Shreveport police shot and killed Brandon Davenport (32) near Marshall and Crockett streets after responding to reports of an armed suspect, and his family is demanding unedited bodycam footage while Louisiana State Police investigate the incident.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Libbie Sonnier of the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children spoke Tuesday, May 20 at the state capitol to urge lawmakers to restore nearly $11 million cut from early childhood education programs—advocates say the funding is vital for child care and preschool.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Advocates urged Louisiana lawmakers Tuesday to restore nearly $9 million for early education after state budget cuts, saying the funds are needed to support child care and school readiness. The request came as the government boosted teacher stipends and set aside $94 million for the LA GATOR program—leaving only about $78 million for early education—raising concerns over child care access for thousands.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bossier Parish Police Jury warned that signal upgrades began yesterday at the Airline Drive and Kingston—Seen Point Roads intersection, causing delays, and similar work is underway today at Airline Drive and Swan Lake Road with deputies directing traffic. Each upgrade is expected to take 4 to 6 hours to complete.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Cancer Society says Louisiana has recorded 29,980 new cancer cases and 9,340 cancer deaths in 2025 with an incidence rate of 496.1 and a mortality rate of 165.2 (both above national averages). Prostate, breast, lung, colorectal, and kidney cancers are the most common while lung, breast, prostate, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers lead in deaths.  Shreveport Times
