  • Festival Plaza in Shreveport is hosting the 41st Mudbug Madness Festival this weekend; the event begins today at 11 a.m. with free admission until 5 p.m. on Friday then a $10 fee, plus crawfish eating contests on Saturday for women and Sunday for men.  KTBS

CRIME NEWS

  • Cortrell Burks, a 52-year-old suspect on the run from Alabama after allegedly killing his soon-to-be fiancée, stopped in Bossier City to get gas and was accused of fatally shooting a store clerk and a customer at a Valero gas station off Industrial Drive when he reportedly said—'I snapped.'  KTBS
  • Shreveport police went to a shooting on May 15 in the 500 block of Lomax Street where a man was hit by several gunshots, and they later charged Vernita Rambo with attempted second degree homicide while the man remains in the hospital with severe injuries.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • Loyola College Prep announced Wednesday that its new principal is Dr. Laurie Salvail after a nationwide search and following John H. LeBlanc’s step down; she will begin her role this summer when the 2025–2026 school year starts. She brings over 15 years of experience (including her role at CYBER.ORG) and will continue the school’s long history (125-year tradition).  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local officials, military members & residents gathered Thursday afternoon at Stoner Boat Launch to honor the U.S. Coast Guard with a ceremony featuring static displays and guided tours of a buoy tender. Peyton Gray of Sibley took the Coast Guard oath during the event and will head to boot camp on July 29.  KTBS
  • On May 20, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office graduated Class 58 from its Regional Training Academy — graduates from eight agencies took the oath and received their badges. The academy also honored outstanding cadets with awards in firearms, academics, physical fitness, and leadership — recognizing over 516 hours of training.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
