COMMUNITY NEWS

  • American Legion Post 14 hosted its biannual Bricks of Honor Ceremony on Monday afternoon to honor U.S. military service members past and present with personalized bricks placed in the memorial garden on South Lakeshore Drive + a ceremonial wreath toss into Cross Lake by the Naval Fleet Reserve closed the event.  KTBS
  • Louisiana will hold a statewide pet adoption event from May 29-31 when shelters offer reduced or waived fees for pets—sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society—in support of Governor Jeff Landry’s push for no-kill shelters as 12,900 more adoptions are needed to reach that goal.  Shreveport Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters rescued multiple dogs and newborn kittens from a house fire on Monday at the 1900 block of Nicholson Street — the fire heavily damaged the home and investigators are still looking into its cause.  KTAL
  • Early Monday morning at 3 a.m., police responded to a crash near the intersection of West Kings Highway and Creswell Drive when a car lost control during heavy rain and slid down a slight embankment in the Shreveport Highland neighborhood—emergency responders transported at least one person to a nearby hospital—and crews later towed the damaged vehicle, with officials saying slick conditions may have contributed to the accident.  KTBS

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested after a multi-parish motorcycle chase that started in DeSoto Parish and ended at Southern Avenue and E 78th Street—he faces charges including illegal possession of stolen property, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and driving under suspension.  KSLA
  • Shreveport police found two small children walking alone at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 25 in the (800 block of Caddo Street) and reunited them with their family shortly after while the children were (2 and 4 years old) and an investigation remains ongoing.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A US Department of Transportation study shows that many Louisiana bridges are rated poor, with 32% in Red River Parish and 21% in East Baton Rouge Parish, while Texas and Arkansas counties have much lower poor ratings—highlighting the state’s significant infrastructure challenges.  KTAL

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSUS defeated defending NAIA national champion Hope International 6—3 as four early doubles and a sacrifice bunt by Diego Aragon helped secure the win while Draven Zeigler pitched seven innings with 10 strikeouts. The team has today off and will take the field tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.  KTBS
