COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Shreveport Police Department will host a summer fishing camp & outdoor event for local youth to learn fishing skills and build community spirit at a local park later this summer.  KSLA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Mudbug Madness drew between 50,000 and 60,000 people last weekend, sparking a boost for local hotels, restaurants and businesses. Tourism officials say the festival’s impact continues to drive job creation and economic growth in the community.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Landry, Senate President Cameron Henry, and House Speaker Philip Devillier announced a task force to secure permanent teacher and support staff pay raises without raising taxes. The task force will review the state's Minimum Foundation Program — a funding test— to set a long-term plan with input from educators.  KTBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The water tower in west Shreveport now displays a fresh white coat featuring small roses and green column supports while interior upgrades near complete. Officials say the tower will return to full service in 2-3 weeks.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • On Friday, May 22, the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority received preliminary approval for taxable bond financing to redevelop the vacant Petroleum Tower into 117 market-rate residential units + retail space; developers hope to break ground in July and finish by December.  KSLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coaches from Louisiana Tech, Northwestern State, Sam Houston State and ULM will lead a free non-contact football clinic for kids aged five to 13 at Independence Stadium on Saturday, June 6 + check-in begins at 7 a.m. at the southwest entrance.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • May 26 saw the All-District 3-2A baseball and softball teams announced, with Many's Payton Hyden earning baseball MVP and coach Toby Remedies honored while Winnfield's Karley Caskey earned softball MVP and coach Ronnie Abels recognized by league coaches.  Shreveport Times
