COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ SPAR pools are now open for the summer season in Shreveport and welcome community members to five locations with fees of $2.50 per person except at Southern Hills, which charges $3.50 and offers a Senior Water Aerobics class weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Pools will close for the season on Aug. 3 while Southern Hills remains open on weekends through Labor Day. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On April 16th, a Shreveport bus driver evacuated seven passengers when smoke came from her bus and its compressed natural gas cylinder exploded near North Hearne Avenue and Forum Drive—she was later honored by city council and Mayor Tom Arceneaux for her quick thinking—averting a greater disaster. - ➤ Police responded at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday when a shooting was reported on Parkhurst Street as nine units arrived and investigators collected details. KSLA
- ➤ Shreveport Police arrested 34-year-old William Collins on May 22 for burglary on Line Avenue—he was found with narcotics and evidence showed he broke a glass door with a rock before stealing computer equipment and snacks from the business. Shreveport Bossier Journal
- ➤ A Shreveport man was arrested on May 24 after he reportedly caused a serious wreck on I-49 and Hollywood Avenue just after 11 p.m.—his green car ran a red light and hit a black Toyota 4Runner, injuring a driver who was taken to the hospital. KSLA
- ➤ Shreveport police arrested Jack Handy on May 23rd—charging him with attempted second-degree murder after he hit a victim with a machete during a parking lot fight, and the victim got stitches for a head wound. KTAL
- ➤ On May 22, Shreveport police arrested three men—Damien Wright, Dale Robertson, and SirDarren Law—in a crackdown on illegal firearms; Wright was charged after a residence search uncovered drugs and a firearm, Robertson was detained during a traffic stop for carrying a handgun as a convicted felon, and Law was arrested for possessing multiple firearms following a separate warrant execution. - ➤ Shreveport police arrested Jack Handy on May 23 after he allegedly attacked a passerby with a hatchet in a parking lot on E 70th Street — the victim suffered a cut by his right eye that required stitches and Handy now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder. KSLA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Shreveport Police told community members they are building a new substation at Cedar Grove Park and that a $2.1M firing range is nearly done after Monday’s test run—its control booth still awaits bulletproof glass while 54 of 58 new vehicles are in service. The department will adjust patrol hours and partner with the Caddo Parish Sheriff to cut cruising near Ford Park and Airport Park. KTBS
