COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On May 27 at 3:11 p.m., Caddo Parish deputies got a call about Treston Decareaux’s missing boat on Wallace Lake and used drones (aerial tech) and marine patrol to locate him; by 6:09 p.m. he was safely recovered and his disabled vessel towed to a nearby launch.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Visitors can pick fresh blackberries and watch white-tailed deer at ODK Farms in Frierson. The family-owned farm at 7312 Hwy 175 is open today from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with Sunday visits available by appointment only.  KTBS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shreveport will soon become the Stuffed Shrimp Capital of Louisiana after House Bill 9 passed unanimously in the state Senate on May 26. The move honors the legacy of Freeman & Harris Cafe and links to the city’s annual Stuffed Shrimp Festival as it awaits Gov. Landry’s signature.  Shreveport Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Caddo Schools is hosting a transportation job fair today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wanda Gunn Professional Development Center (3908 Joplin Street) to recruit bus drivers and bus attendants, offering competitive benefits.  KTBS
  • Educators from northwest Louisiana have been named finalists for the 2027 Louisiana Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year awards, including North DeSoto Upper 5th grade math teacher Hillary Severin, C.E. Byrd High teacher Monica Speyrer, and Bellaire Elementary principal Alyshia Coulson—each recognized for their dedication and student support.  KSLA
  • Gov. Landry announced a new task force to study the school funding formula so teachers can earn a permanent raise after voters rejected a constitutional amendment on May 16. The group (meeting soon) will review budget and revenue details to adjust spending on public schools and higher education.  KSLA
  • Five Centenary softball seniors, namely Emma Crow, Morgan Dawson, Abigail Hodgson, Alexis Roach, and Laine Sullivan, were named to the 2026 Academic All-District Softball teams by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday, meeting strict academic and athletic standards.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Gov. Landry said he is working to secure permanent pay raises for teachers and staff by year’s end and will form a task force to review the school funding formula once the state budget arrives Friday. The proposal must be approved by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.  KSLA

  • State regulators and LSU officials are working to develop a statewide seismic monitoring network to track a series of earthquakes in northwest Louisiana that started in late 2025 and recently peaked near Red River Parish. Researchers say improved data will help guide future decisions regarding oil & gas wastewater injection.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • City officials issued a voluntary boil water advisory in Shreveport's west pressure zone yesterday because of repair work by utility partners and power issues (the advisory remains until water samples confirm safety).  Shreveport Times
  • Southwood High student Christopher Daniels II was honored at Government Plaza on May 26 for becoming the first in school history to earn an associate degree from Southern University while still completing high school. His dual enrollment milestone highlights expanded academic opportunities for local students.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • At Tuesday's city council meeting, the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence partnered with local and national agencies to launch the Caddo Coordinated Response Model, a plan that maps community resources and streamlines support for victims, with experts expected to produce a coordinated strategy within 90 days.  KSLA
