CRIME NEWS
- ➤ At 5:30 a.m. on May 28, Shreveport police discovered infant remains at the Alsco Uniforms building on Hollywood Avenue and determined the body was of an infant stillborn in Dallas on May 3—prompting an investigation into how the remains were mistakenly transported after the funeral on May 17. - ➤ At 8:20 p.m. on May 27, a 15-year-old boy named Kevin R. Ester was shot on the 3100 block of Parkhurst Street (near Prentiss Ave) in Shreveport and died at 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday at Ochsner LSU Health (marking the 15th homicide in Shreveport for 2025) as the Shreveport Police Department continues its investigation. - ➤ The Southern Poverty Law Center filed a petition on Wednesday in district court for Caddo Parish on behalf of a student and his parents to block the planned closure of Queensborough Elementary School after the 2024–25 school year — saying the school board did not hold the required public hearings. The petition claims the change will force hundreds of Black families to send their children to schools outside their current zones — a move that harms local families. KTBS
- ➤ Caddo Parish Public Schools will host a job fair on June 2 at the Wanda L. Gunn Professional Development Center in Shreveport to recruit bus drivers and attendants—applicants must meet age, license, and background requirements to qualify for free CDL training and a $500 sign-on bonus. KTAL

- ➤ Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming announced nearly 143,000 blue checks worth more than $34 million in unclaimed property will be mailed this week to residents across every parish and noted that one in six residents is eligible to claim a share of $1.2 billion in assets such as bank accounts and payroll checks—recipients are urged to cash them promptly.
