COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Urban League of LA will host a career and resource expo in Shreveport, offering job and training guidance for local residents. More event details are expected to be announced soon.  KSLA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tilman Fertitta will acquire Caesars Entertainment, including Horseshoe Bossier City, in a $17.6 billion deal that pays $5.7 billion cash + assumes $12 billion in debt while Caesars investors get $31 per share and the company may consider competing bids until July 11.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Jeff Landry is working with legislators to raise teacher salaries after a May 2026 amendment failed to shift funds from teacher programs. He plans to redirect $150 million from the Minimum Foundation Program + find extra funds for permanent raises and one more year of stipends.  Shreveport Times
  • LSUS will host the Choice vs. Condition mental health event soon. The university plans to provide discussions on mental health resource options and wellness insights for local community members (check LSUS channels for details).  KSLA
  • Caddo Schools will host a transportation job fair soon for drivers and support staff (details to come) in Shreveport; the event aims to connect local candidates with school district opportunities.  KSLA

  • Speaker Mike Johnson honored 22 community service honorees at the Spirit of Louisiana Community Awards yesterday at Bossier Parish School for Technology and Innovative Learning in Bossier City + the awards recognized local service from 14 parishes.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Fairfield Market and Cafe in Shreveport serves daily specials and local favorites like chicken spaghetti, soups, sandwiches, and salads in a comfortable setting.   • Hoodbachi Tacos recently moved to a new spot near the airport at the Regency Inn and Suites (5116 Monkhouse Dr.), offering hibachi-style rice bowls, tacos, and more with fresh ingredients as patrons order at the counter. SPORTS NEWS

  • Louisiana Tech sophomore Elena Heng won her second straight Gold Glove award as the nation’s top collegiate softball centerfielder. Heng — the first mid-major player to win at two positions — posted a 1.000 fielding percentage and earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year honors this season.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Northwestern State (NSU) sophomore Roy Morris set a personal record in the long jump on Wednesday at the NCAA East Regional Championships in Kentucky and qualified for the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oregon, where he aims to earn All-American honors.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Byrd seniors Wyatt Ditt and Markeith Niblett made history by winning the 4x400 relay at the LHSAA Track and Field championships on May 28 at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium, setting a school record and earning track scholarships from Northwestern State in a small ceremony.  Shreveport Times
  • Byrd's Wyatt Ditt explained on Wednesday why he opted to sign with Northwestern, saying he compared several offers before making his choice.  Shreveport Times
  • Hudson Smith from North Webster High School earned national honors after being named McNaughton Chapter Scholar-Athlete of the Year, joining the 2026 NFF Team of Distinction for top high school scholar-athletes in academics, sports, and community service.
