ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded just after 10:30 a.m. today—pulling a victim safely from a quadplex on Stoner Avenue’s 600 block.  KSLA

CRIME NEWS

  • A man wanted for seriously hurting a person at a Shreveport gas station was arrested Friday evening on Greenwood Road—authorities say Johnathan B. Melton, 33, is now held without bond at the Caddo Correctional Center on a charge of second-degree battery.  KTBS
  • An employee at a Mansfield Road bar and grill was stabbed in the arm when he stepped in after seeing a woman get pushed on June 6 at 10 p.m. — police said the suspect fled in a gray Nissan Altima and the victim did not need medical treatment.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Louisiana schools have shown strong progress in reading as Shanna Beber leads a 17-person literacy team—guiding teachers to use research-based methods that focus on direct instruction and collaboration. The team uses classroom visits and data analysis to help school leaders support teachers while tracking important literacy improvements.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development installed traffic count devices (in Caddo, Sabine, St. John, St. Martin, and Red River parishes) to count vehicles and gather data. The agency said on June 5 that the safe, non-invasive devices help guide future road work and asked people not to tamper with them (to keep the data accurate).  KTAL
  • The Louisiana Department of Transportation said two ramps at the LA 782/2 interchange in Bossier City reopened today as part of the I-20 major rehabilitation project, making the full interchange open to traffic. The DOTD said the Airline Drive ramps will close Monday, June 9—triggering a full rebuild—while the project is scheduled to finish late 2025 or early 2026.  KTAL
  • Chef Niema DiGrazia from Abby Singer’s Bistro in Shreveport won on Beat Bobby Flay on May 29 and was honored by Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry with a proclamation thanking her for representing Louisiana with excellence—her win on national television brought pride to the community.  KSLA
