  • The Vegan Community Cookout will be held on June 14th from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Pamoja Park at 914 Sprague Street, where local chefs and holistic vendors will offer vegan food tastings—along with fitness demos, herbal consultations, and handcrafted products—for free. Organizers plan to create a welcoming space for families to explore plant-based living and wellness experiences.  KTAL
  • The Caddo Council on Aging is giving fans to seniors in Caddo Parish who lack a working air conditioner in Shreveport. The distribution runs Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 1700 Buckner Street, Suite 240 through Aug. 29 — new fan donations are accepted.  KTBS

CRIME NEWS

  • The Shreveport Police Department is seeking three individuals for vehicle-related thefts—Cheryl Bayless for not returning a leased U-Haul, Landon Meshell after a recovered and wrecked motor vehicle led to his identification as a thief, and Daniel Haggerty for failing to return an Enterprise rental car, with arrests warranted for all and officials urging anyone with tips to come forward.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Caddo District Court judge denied the SPLC’s request to stop the Caddo Parish School Board from closing Queensborough Elementary School and selling its property. The judge said the petition did not show immediate harm and will hold a hearing at 9:30 a.m. on June 17 — the petition alleged the board did not follow proper public hearing procedures.  KTBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents of Caddo Parish can learn about law enforcement operations at a citizen's academy hosted by the Caddo Sheriff's Office each Tuesday night in July from 6 to 8 p.m. at Safety Town on 8910 Jewella Ave, and interested participants must be at least 18 (have a valid state driver's I.D., no felony convictions and pass a background check) to register by contacting Vernita Williams.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Shreveport native Connor Cassano won the 106th Louisiana Amateur Golf championship in New Orleans after forcing a playoff with Landen East on Sunday. He shot 19 under par over 72 holes and sealed the win with a birdie on the par 5 18th hole — making him the second local champion in three years.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
