CRIME NEWS

  • Louisiana's Second Circuit Court of Appeal upheld the conviction of 19-year-old Ja’Shun Ja’Marick Smith for second-degree murder and attempted murder in the 2021 shooting rampage near Tinseltown Theater in Shreveport—his damage charges were vacated due to jurisdiction—confirming his sentences will run consecutively.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Shreveport police arrested Christopher Stark on June 10 for charges of third-degree rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile following a January incident on Lakeshore Drive—detectives obtained DNA evidence that led to his arrest—and the investigation continues.  KSLA

  • Today the Shreveport City Council approved updates to the Unified Development Code to change how liquor stores are regulated—local officials say the new rules will address residents' concerns about store locations and better balance economic development with neighborhood interests.  KTBS
  • On Tuesday, Shreveport City Council approved ordinance 38 to charge property owners for cleaning up dangerous abandoned properties and deter squatters. City officials said the law mirrors state measures and aims to lower health and safety risks in the community — a decisive step against blight.  KTBS
